How to Plant and Care for Roses – A Simple Guide for Beautiful Blooms

                 Rose is very easy to plant and care. To see your plant growing healthy you just have to follow some easy steps and precautions.

Some conditions to check before you start planting

• o  Select the planting location where your plant can get minimum 4 hours direct sunlight.
• o  Avoid planting a rose plant close to other plants. Planting rose near to other plant will lead to intense competition for nutrient, sunlight and moisture.
• o  Rose can be planted in any season but it is better if you are plating it in winter. If you are buying rose from nursery, it is good to transplant it in growing period. Roses are best planted in spring or in fall.
• o  Avoid planting location which is very exposed to wind. Strong wind can affect roots as it can loosen them in soil.

Different Growing methods

o  From bare root:  Bare root plant means the plant which is supplied without soil around the roots. Soak the bare roots in water for 24 hours before transplanting it in soil. This helps the plant to emerge from dormancy and get ready to grow. 

o  Potted plant:  You can buy potted plant from nursery and transplant it into the soil. This should be done in spring for better results, as it is growth period of plants.

o  Planting stem:  You can plant rose plant with green stem cutting, but it requires more care and attention.

Planting rose plant with stem cutting is little bit difficult. You should take extra cuttings as a failure possibilities. Cutting should be done properly before rooting them into the soil. Sharp tools are required for cutting so as stem cannot be damaged during cutting.

                          Take a cut of new stem that has recently bloomed from 45-degree angle. Remove the leaves, flower or bud from that if present. Removing leaves from that stem will redirect energy towards root production.

                           Plant the cutting into the soil and gently pack the soil around the stem. Maintain the soil moisture and place the cutting under light.

Taking care of Rose

• o  Roses grow healthy in fertile and well-drained soil. Soil should be prepared with compost and farm yard manure.
• o  Roses require deep watering, Water is essential for flower growth. Water frequently in dry season.
• o  Avoid watering during afternoon period, because evaporation is increased during this time.
• o  Make sure water will not sustain on leaves for long period, as it leads to plant disease and fungal infections.
